Piano quandries

I really want to paint our piano blue. I know it sounds wierd, but who do you know that has a blue piano. I think it would be awesome. The main thing that's stopping me, besides our lack of space to paint it, is Zach who doesn't really think blue is an appropriate color for pianos. But today I saw this green piano on Design Mom and I swear she was thinking the exact thing as I was. It gave me courage. It costs a fortune to have a piano refinished. Ours sounds great, is in good working order, but has several stains and it just looks a little sad. I think a nice bright paint job would be just the thing we need to keep that piano going. If you agree, please tell Zach sometime for me would you?

Yes, I would agree with Zach. Blue pianos are a little over the top, and in fact, have been know to cause small children to misbehave and throw tantrums. My suggestion is to use a dark stain to hide those unsightly stains.

Ha! Who said that? Zach, is that you? And why is it that everyone thinks furniture all has to be brown or black or white when there are so many other beautiful colors? Thank goodness Michaelangelo painted with more colors than just black and white.

Believe it or not, (well, knowing me, I'm sure it's not a stretch) I have a whole shelf of paint I've collected the past few years purely for painting old furniture and such. The buffet in our kitchen (it will be turquoise) is on the list, along with all the bookshelves (orange and purple are some options). And someday I will get an old piano and paint it red. So Zach, painting your piano blue is actually kind of tame. (Just wait until you hear what I want to paint our house)

I really think you should paint the piano - I would not even hesitate, because really you are not happy with your piano now, so if you didn't like it, what would have changed really? And I think that you will like it (because even Martha Stewart would agree, bright blue is awesome) and I think that painting pianos is going to get big (I have a friend who just painted hers) and so eclectic, and you can always repaint it another color if you get sick of blue and also it would give your children a great nostalgic story about when they were growing up and became brilliant virtuosos on a bright blue piano.

(can you tell by how detailed my opinion is on this matter that I have definitely been thinking about painting mine? :))

I totally this blue is a LEGIT color! And how fun to have that be in a nice big room in your house...it can be the focal piece in that room. You won't need any artwork, the piano will be the artwork!
If you need help, I'll help! I have experience out the wazoo when it comes to painting furniture!

Don't do it Amber! Be strong!

I would never have the guts to do it, but I think it would be fun in someone else's house. Why not yours? :)

i happen to think that painting your piano is a FABULOUS idea and if i had a piano...i would totally paint it...a deep turquoise or maybe even orange.

that's all.

do it...do it...do it!

i agree that the boys will always have fond memories of their blue piano. and it will be a great conversation starter when they're on their first dates with their future spouses. :)
